Wasps would love to bring BBL basketball to Hull

The Wasps are in the swing of pre-season now and are putting the hard work in for their debut season in National League Division 3. Chairman David Bushnell has commented on why this is going to be one of the biggest seasons yet off the court.

“This is uncharted territory for the club. Our first 6 seasons have been spent in Division 4 and we have done some amazing things whilst we have been there. We have one of the biggest and best fan bases for any team in the EBL. We have a great following online which has meant we have had to increase our online profile rapidly. We continue to attract players from all over the globe with players this season coming from America, France, Poland and all over the UK. Now we have an opportunity to find out what chances Division 3 will give us to develop as a club.”

The club chairman also commented that the club have much bigger aspirations beyond Division 3.

”We understand that in this country it is a promotion and relegation format. So the short term goal is to establish ourselves in a new division and then start building a team who are going to be taking us into Division 2. We already have a lot of those faces in the club and hopefully we can upset a few teams along the way this season. The end goal has always been to bring the first BBL franchise to Hull. To have the elite level of basketball in Humberside. It has never been done and with the right investment there is no reason why the 2017 city of culture could not host BBL basketball.”

These are lofty ambitions for the club but when you consider all the club have achieved so far these ambitions don’t really appear that far away.
