Wasps Seek First Away Win

Hull Wasps travel to Greater Manchester this weekend, hoping for their first away victory of the season. Having lost all three matches on their travels this season, the Wasps take on league-newcomers Stockport Spartans.

This is the Spartan's first season in the national league and are something of an unknown quantity but have undoubted quality at the helm in the form of player-coach Jason Swaine. Swaine brings excellent pedigree having a career that spans 20 years including BBL teams Doncaster Panthers, Sheffield Sharks and Manchester Giants as well as representing England on 23 occasions. Famed for his high scoring exploits and deadly three point shot, Swaine had 43 points in his last match v Hull Wasps in the 2010-11 season.

The Wasps will obviously have their hands full with Swaine but Spartans also have another pair of high scoring guards in Charlie Cuthbert and Jimmy Royle  who are ably backed up by forward Stu Griffiths.

Spartans currently stand in 7th place in V-cars.co.uk division 4 having beaten local rivals and perrenial top 4 team Stockport Falcons II before losing to this season's form team Tees Valley Mohawks II.

Hoping to build on last Saturday's hard-fought 76-65 victory over Newcastle Knights, which saw a return to high scoring form for sharp shooter Aidy Blatherwick, Wasps will be encouraged by the fact that four players scored in double figures. If Ben Burns returns, the Spartans will have to be at their defensive best to stop the swarming Wasps!

The Wasps currently stand in 5th position in the league and will hope for a first away win of the season to move them up the table ahead of their next home game where they will hope to extend their unbeaten run in front of their own vociferous fans to four matches.

Sunday's home match against Tees Valley Mohawks II in the national shield has been postponed and will now be played on the 18th November, giving Wasps another double header weekend after they entertain Liverpool in the V-cars.co.uk league match on November 17th.
