Wasps ready to take on Leeds

The Hull Wasps travel to Leeds this weekend to face the Leeds Tigers, with a hope of continuing their winning ways after last weekend's massive victory against the Teesside Lions.

The Leeds Tigers, a Division 4 team who are currently playing their inaugural season in the National League with a highly skilled team of players, have had mixed results since kicking off the season in September. They faced Stockport Falcons in the National Cup, and, despite losing this game by a tiny margin at 84-82, the Tigers were actually winning for the first three quarters of the game, proving that their loss was in no part due to a lack of skill. Their next game, their National Shield debut against the Tees Valley Mohawks II, saw them lose only by 5 points, an impressive performance considering Tees Valley are a Division 3 team.

The Tigers have found a star player in Jarryd “The Boss” Moss, who has been a high scorer for them in most of their games so far, with 25 points to his name for both the game against Stockport Falcons and the Newcastle Eagles. They also have a close runner-up in Julian Soobayah, a high scorer in a number of games and recognised as ‘one to watch’ by local basketball fans.

A win against Sefton Stars at 64-53 and 14-point loss to the Newcastle Eagles means that the Leeds Tigers currently sit two places higher than the Wasps on the Division 4 League table. However, the Wasps only sit so low due to one of their wins becoming void as Childwall Academy dropped out of the League, suggesting that the Tigers may pose a challenge for the Wasps, so the team will have to put in a great performance to come away with a win.

Wasps Coach Matt Fawcett shared his hopes for the upcoming game. “This is a good chance for us to get the ball rolling and grab our first away game win of the season. Last weekend we set a standard for ourselves and we need to keep that up. The guys have already proved to me and themselves that are they are a great team capable of great results. It’s time we prove it to our fans and to everybody else as well.”

Tip-off is Saturday 19th October at 3.00pm at the David Young Academy, Leeds.
