The Hull Wasps travel to Leeds this Sunday looking for another win after a flying victory over the Kingston Panthers in last weekend's derby.
Standing firmly in the middle of the National League Division Four league table, the Wasps need to continue playing to these high standards in order to achieve their ambitions of promotion this season. New signings John Stewart, Jack Daley, Matt Macart and Manuel Guzman are playing consistently well, with Stewart in particular individually scoring 20+ points per game. As well as this, preexisting Wasps players have all shown considerable improvement since last season, with Matt Wilson and Matt Fawcett in particular giving some impressive performances on the court.
Sunday's opponents Leeds Carnegie Academy II are yet to win a match this season, having been heavily defeated by Kingston Panthers and the Newcastle Eagles in their previous two games. However, this will only have increased their determination to get their first win of the season and is no reason for the Wasps to become complacent. Leeds Carnegie's match against the Leeds Tigers, a very strong side who are currently second in the league table with a record of 4-1, saw Carnegie lose only by 8 points. The Wasps therefore need to be on top form to ensure another win.
"We have started this season with a couple of silly mistakes, but things are definitely looking up for us and we are growing more and more in confidence with each game," commented Coach Matt Fawcett. "Last weekend's win over our rivals Kingston Panthers has given us a huge moral boost and we are more than capable of winning this Sunday."
Tip off is Sunday 3rd November at Leeds Met Uni Sports Centre at 1.00pm.
