Wasps Ready for Falcons Test

Hull Wasps make the trip across the Pennines again this week, on a high after after last weekend's impressive double victories, and looking to pick up their first away win of the season against Stockport Falcons II.

The much needed wins over Liverpool and Tees Valley should act as the perfect morale boost to the Wasps after their disappointing start to the season. Shooting guards Neil Rymer and Aidy Blatherwick have begun to consistently find their 3 point range whilst the big trio of Brutnell, Rayner and Wilson are beginning to dominate inside; Brutnell with his scoring exploits and Wilson and Rayner doing the dirty work on the boards. Add to this the inspirational leadership of John Kelsey and the team are beginning to gel in impressive style.

Stockport Falcons II are long time sparring partners in this division for the Wasps as they have competed in all four seasons that Wasps have been in division 4. Last season saw the two teams share the honours with the home team coming out on top on both occasions. Indeed, since they first met in 2008 the Wasps have 4 wins and 4 defeats to the Falcons.

The Falcons have a reputation of annual contenders in this division. Only once in the last 5 seasons have they finished outside of the top 4, reaching the divisional playoffs last season. Their overall record stands at a very impressive 67-39 since they entered the league in 2007.

This season they have made another good start and are currently 3rd in the table with a 3-2 record. As the second team to Stockport Falcons who compete in V-Cars.co.uk division 3, they often lose their better players at the end of each season. However, they still have an impressive scoring threat in the shape of Cole who has top scored in 3 of their 5 matches so far and he is ably backed up by the Parr brothers who make up a formidable scoring trio.

Tip off is 5.30pm at the Stockport Ball Hall this Saturday 24th November.

Coach Fawcett: "We have to focus on doing the little things well if we are going to beat a well drilled Stockport team. Hopefully we have some momentum behind us now and we can get that first away win."
