HULL Wasps are within touching distance of a spot in the quarter-finals of England Basketball’s National Shield.

Hull host Sefton Stars, a side that occupy second spot in Division Three, at Ennerdale Leisure Centre in north Hull on Sunday.

On Saturday, they are travelling to the north-east, confident of extending their Division Four record to 6-0 against winless Newcastle Eagles II.

Player-coach John Brignell says he sees no reason why the Wasps can’t make it another winning double-header.

He said: “Sefton are doing very well in Division Three, but they will have looked at our record and will know they have a game on their hands.

“I think we have the players to be able to compete with anyone at that level. It will be a good test for us because they are in the league we want to be in next season.”

Tip-off against Sefton is 2pm.
