Hull Wasps will be looking to build on last Sunday’s second-round Shield victory when they visit Bradford Dragons II this afternoon.
The Wasps have been in mixed form since the start of season with 2 wins and 2 defeats in National League 4. But after a 75-66 win against Middlesbrough Lions in the Shield, the Wasps will be looking to get another win this afternoon at Bradford.
“We know we have to work our socks off this weekend” said Wasps coach Matt Fawcett.
“Last weekend was a bit of a wake-up call for us with the defeat on the Saturday. We bounced back on the Sunday though and that was important in many ways. We wanted to show we are still in the running for a play-off spot this year and that lifted the pressure a little bit.”
Bradford Dragons field their first-team in the top-flight of National League; three-divisions above the Wasps but their second-team have begun competing in League 4 this season as part of the club’s development programme.
The Dragons II have also had a mixed start to the season with just one win and two defeats. However, it’s not a set of results that Fawcett is paying too much attention to.
“Bradford Dragons are a great club. They have been established for many years and run well-drilled sides at all levels.
“Results perhaps haven’t gone their way so far but they will be a threat. There’s no question of that. We have to get back to playing our game first and worry about ourselves. We’ve put the lads through their paces this week in training and we’ll travel to Bradford today knowing that we have to work hard to gain the two points that we need.”
Hull will most-likely be missing starting point-guard Chris Cummings for the trip after he picked up an ankle injury during last Sunday’s victory over Middlesbrough. James Rayner, Andy Marr and Chris Mills will also be missing through injury.
The game at Buttershaw College tips-off today at 4:15pm.
