Hull Wasps begin their new season this Sunday with a huge National Cup first round clash with Division 2 side, Mansfield Giants.
An under strength Wasps will travel to the South Yorkshire club tomorrow with just nine players available.
"We are missing some of our senior players" said Wasps Head Coach, Matt Fawcett.
" There's a few injuries in the squad at the moment so we're not taking any risks to make sure as many players are available for the start of the league in a few weeks."
Fawcett also confirmed that promotion in the league was top priority for his side this season.
"The cup is important but can't be our biggest concern this season. Realistically we know that we are up against a quality division two side and we are certainly the underdogs going into the game.
"With the injuries we have, there's no point taking risks when players have injuries. It's a long season so we need every player available for the league games, which has to be our key goal this season."
Senior players missing include James Rayner, Miles Anderson, Adrian Blatherwick, Matt Brutnell, Neil Rymer and captain John Kelsey. However, Coach Fawcett believes it presents a great opportunity for some of the newer members of the squad to gain some valuable experience against top opposition.
"Some of our new players have the chance to get a good test and put in a good performance. That's what I'm looking for on Sunday."
Tip off is at 2pm at Oaktree Leisure Centre.
