The Wasps are proud to announce a partnership with Wyke 6th Form College. The partnership which will start with immediate effect is aimed at developing the level of both the Wasps & Wyke teams and provide a player pathway for the students who aspire to play National League.
One major area the partnership will impact will be women's basketball. Currently both Wyke and the Wasps have women's basketball teams that train separately and with the new partnership the teams will be encouraged to train together twice a week with the long term goal being to create a an elite women's team and a development team who will play in both local leagues and National League.
The other major area the partnership will impact both organisations is with the Under 18 National League team. Players who excel in the Wyke basketball program (Coached by Neil Kelsey) will then be passed onto the Wasps with an opportunity to play for the Wasps under 18s team.
Head Coach of the Wasps Matthew Fawcett said "This is a great opportunity to develop players across the region. Having a clear player pathway will allow the club to tap into younger players and develop the club moving forward. Wyke are a premier college and we are excited to be pairing with them.
Head of sport at Wyke College Mark Lucid commented "Basketball in the city is on the up and with Neil Kelsey helping to increase participation numbers at the college over recent years, this partnership will now help promote excellence and create a pathway for progression."
With both the Wasps and Wyke 6th Form College creating this terrific basketball opportunity the future is bright for basketball in Hull.
