Hull Wasps get their pre-season campaign underway this Sunday with a trip north to face Middlesbrough Lions.
The Wasps will be giving debuts to a handful of new signings on Sunday. Seven new players including Rob Dawson, Liam Wordsworth, Neil Rymer, Arran Hayes, Robin Hewson, Mark Baker and Amir Nasr are all in the mix for Sunday's clash against the newly promoted division 3 side.
Meanwhile the Wasps have also signed 6'6" rookie-centre Matt Wilson who will also be in contention for a place in the traveling squad.
Coach Matt Fawcett thinks that facing the Middlesbrough Lions is the perfect test for the new recruits.
"Since June we have been training hard and the opportunity came up for us to face a Middlesbrough side that are preparing for life in Division 3 after a successful campaign last season. They are a great side who work hard under James [Thomson] and they have achieved a lot in their short time."
Middlesbrough won promotion to Division 3 North for this season after a terrific campaign which saw them finish second in Division 4. Fawcett admires their progress and believes his Wasps side have what it takes to join them next season.
"They have already achieved what I want to achieve with the Wasps. I want to be right there with them after this season and the pre-season game this weekend will be a good measuring stick to see the potential for this season."
The Lions have overhauled the promotion winning side and have added some key pieces that will look to push the Hull side hard in their first game together.
The Wasps tip off against Middlesbrough at 4.00pm at the Eston sports academy this Sunday. Tickets available on the door - £4 adults, £3 juniors, £12 family.
