Hull Wasps will head into the second round of their National League campaign this weekend with 2 games on the road.
The Wasps will travel over to the North West to take on league-newcomers Rossendale Raptors on Saturday evening followed by a long trip to Division 2’s Northumbria in the second round of the National Cup on Sunday.
Last weekend, Hull made it look easy as they routed Oldham Titans 84-39 in the National League opening game at the Bonus Arena and look to be in fine form as they make the two journeys this weekend.
"It was a fantastic start to the season” said Wasps coach Matt Fawcett. “To hold a team to 39 points is a fantastic statement to make to the rest of the league.”
Rossendale Raptors have already shown to be a difficult team to beat with narrow losses against Division 3’s Huddersfield Heat and Warrington Wolves during pre-season but Fawcett is confident his side will be ready on Saturday.
“Rossendale are one of the stronger teams in the league. They will present our first big challenge of the year. But we are more than ready to play them. We have to play to our strengths and keep our focus but I’m confident we have the players that will go out there and perform.”
Sunday presents a much more difficult challenge for the Wasps with a National Cup second round at Team Northumbria. Hull Wasps lost 102-90 to Northumbria in the first round of the Cup last season but put in a spirited performance showing they can compete with the best.
“Sunday is a David and Goliath match-up. We know that as a good Division 2 side, Team Northumbria are very strong but we will attack them early and compete like we did last year. Hopefully after 40 minutes we will have produced one of the country’s biggest upsets in the competition."
The Wasps tip-off at 5:15pm on Saturday at Rossendale and tip-off at 5pm on Sunday at Northumbria.
