Top 2 or Nothing As League Announce Play-Offs

It's 1st or 2nd place for Hull Wasps this season if the club are to make the play-offs and have a chance of promotion to National League 3. England Basketball have announced the format for the end-of-season play-offs for the 2009-10 season.

It was originally thought that 3rd place finish could mean a spot in the competition like last season, but with the addition of another conference in National League 4 (North, Midlands, South East and South West) the play-off format allows only for 1st and 2nd placed teams to meet in the competition at the end of the season.

The Wasps currently sit at the top of the Northern Conference after just 3 games into the league season but it's a position that head coach Chris McKenna isn't taking for granted.

"We've worked really hard so far. It's a long season and that work rate is always hard to maintain. The players are full of enthusiasm and sky-high in confidence right now. We'll keep going and keep tightening up on defence and hopefully we'll finish in the top 2 when it comes to the end of the season."

The full play-off format for National League 4 North is as follows:

A - 1st North v 2nd Midlands
B - 1st Midlands v 2nd North
C - 1st South East v 2nd South West
D - 1st South West v 2nd South East

(1) Winner of A v Winner of D
(2) Winner of B v Winner of C

Winner (1) v Winner (2)
