The Hull Wasps won a thrilling fundraiser game against the Hull Kingston Icebergs who after looking all but beaten at mid-point through the game, set up a thrilling finale with a great 3rd quarter display to nearly win the game.

The game started off lively as expected with the Wasps opening the gap early with 3, 3-pointers from Jamie Goodwin and Neil Rymer to take a 23-14 lead at the end of the 1st period.

A steady performance from the Wasps, going inside to score the vast majority of their points in the 2nd period, allowed them to open up a 16 point margin, going in at the half 49-33 up.

However, as one-sided it looked, the Icebergs clearly had different ideas and produced a solid 3rd quarter performance, going on a 23-4 scoring run which brought them to within 1 point at the end of the 3rd, trailing 63-62.

That set-up an exciting final quarter for the 300+ crowd packed out in the Gemtec Arena. Some great performances from players on both sides saw the scores tight all the way. The Icebergs were 5 points down with just over 1 minute remaining saw them have to foul in order to catch up. The Wasps managed to hold out though through some freethrow shooting that was just enough to keep the Icebergs at arms-length.

Miguel Carnelo was the games top-scorer with 21 points. Jamie Goodwin top-scored for the Wasps with 25 and Neil Rymer came close with 24.
