A POOR defensive display in the final quarter proved costly for the Hull Wasps on Saturday afternoon as they went down 84-67 on Teeside.

An opening quarter saw the Wasps lagging behind for the majority but pulling it back to end the first period just 4 points behind at 17-13. A much stronger performance from Hull in the second period put them in real contention taking a narrow lead over the home side at 35-33.

It was much of the same from both sides in the third period with some good end to end scoring. After some 50:50 decisions going in favour of the home side, Hull began to waiver in defence and the Sonics took control to take their first win against the Wasps.

James Rayner top scored for the Hull Wasps with 17 points with Adrian Blatherwick following with 16. Jamie Goodwin came third with 13 points.
