HULL Wasps were taught a lesson in outside shooting in a 93-42 by NBL Division II side Team Northumbria in the National Cup.

The Wasps travelled to the north-east under no illusions over the magnitude of the task against their higher-division hosts. And so it proved as they found themselves 35-7 down after the first quarter - thanks to an incredible nine three-pointers from their opponents.

Assistant coach Matt Fawcett switched the Wasps zone defence to a man-to-man and the change instantly steadied the ship, with Northumbria edging the second quarter 16-15.

But after another improved quarter after halftime, the hosts' class showed in the fourth quarter as they coasted to victory against the weary Wasps.

Centre Michal Kucmierczyk top-scored with eight points.
