After 4 consecutive wins, the Hull Wasps were brought back to earth after being beaten 106-48 at League 2 side, Mansfield Giants. The newly promoted side who finished 2nd in last season's League 3 Northern conference, beat the Wasps in a convincing fashion and offered a bit a of beating during the game also.
Guard Adrian Blatherwick suffered a broken nose to add to the Wasps injury list in the build up to the new season. Matt Fawcett stood-in as coach again for this game and was happy with the overall performance of the team.
"The guys played well in parts but it was certainly a tough lesson out there. They were a class outfit and we knew that before we came but it was excellent preperation for the new season. Teams like Mansfield are where we're aiming at and it always makes you raise your game when you play against a team like this. We will learn from this I'm sure and will help us for the season ahead."
The Wasps pre-season continues in two weeks time with a trip to the north east for a 2 day tournament. Full details are due to be released very soon.
