Hull Wasps earned their spot in the semi-finals of the Doncater League Cup on Wednesday night with an impressive win against local rivals East Riding Harriers.
East Riding started out the stronger side and took advantage of the Wasps slack defense. This gave the Harriers a 13-8 lead at the end of the first period. The Wasps continued to struggle in the second quarter but Jason Monro kept the Wasps close but the Harriers held their 9 point lead at the half with the score 21-30 to East Riding.
The second half was a lot more productive for the Wasps who clawed their way back throughout the third. A solid team effort on both ends of the floor saw the Wasps trailing just 44-43 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was tough for both teams and the Wasps found themselves in foul trouble early on. This resulted in a change of defense that worked in the Wasps advantage and when guard Mike Likupe scored 12 points in 2 minutes the game was over. The Harriers turned to fouling to bring it back but it was all too late.
Reserves coach and captain Liam Wordsworth felt this was a big win for the Wasps. "We were behind the whole game but never got our heads down and clawed our way back into the game. We're now hoping for a good draw in the semi finals and hopefully get a result."
Jason Monro top scored with 24 followed by Mike Likupe with 23. The Reserves next game is against Darfield next Wednesday night (25th).
