Regularly throughout the summer, HULLWASPS.CO.UK aims to bring you an exclusive behind-the-scenes diary from various players in the Hull Wasps squad. First up, we have point guard James Brough.

Hi Wasps fans, I’m James Brough and as some of you may know I‘m a point guard for the Hull Wasps.

The season finished about a month ago and although we didn’t achieve our initial goal of promotion from division 4 we definitely did ourselves proud and hopefully you all enjoyed watching our home games at Ennerdale.

I’ve been asked to keep a diary during the off-season so you can all get an insight into what life is like for the members of the Hull Wasps squad when we’re not travelling all over the North of the country during the season.

Coach Fawcett has wasted no time and has asked all returning members of the squad to set themselves 3 basketball goals to achieve before the start of the 2013-14 season and I’ve decided to get started on one of mine very early. I’ve always relied on being tall for my position but over the last few seasons I’ve become aware that I need to improve my physical strength in order to compete in this league. Since the season ended I’ve been playing a lot less basketball so I’ve put my energy into a different kind of training as I am lucky enough to have some gym equipment in my spare room.

I’ve been using a protein supplement from Icon Nutrition which is a Hull-based company and lifting weights at least a couple of times a week after work or at weekends so hopefully once the season comes back around I should be a bit more explosive and be able to grab some rebounds to help out our big guys who do such a great job on the boards.

I’ll keep you all updated on my progress and I’ll be posting some videos in the next few months to show you what kind of stuff we get up to during the summer.

Finally I’m really looking forward to the Hull Wasps awards night this weekend which is also a race night so that should be a really fun event. It’s always nice to get together with the rest of the players and the people who work hard behind the scenes, as I don’t live in Hull I don’t often get to spend time with the rest of the Wasps family on a social level so I’m hoping plenty of you guys show up to help support the club!
