HULL Wasps new Head-Coach Matt Fawcett was left jumping for joy after meeting former British Olympic Triple-Jumper and Gold Medallist, Jonathan Edwards.

In a community sports day held as part of the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, Edwards visited Hull as part of a ‘Come and Try It’ family sports event. The event was held to promote a variety of local sport, including Basketball.

Wasps’ coaches Matt Fawcett and Liam Wordsworth, who also attended the event to help promote Basketball within the city, had the chance to meet the former Olympic star.

“He was a genuinely nice guy” said Fawcett, who was appointed as Hull Wasps Head-Coach less than a month ago.

“He is champion and a fantastic athlete. We are very fortunate to have met him and only hope that we can take on board some of his characteristics as we come together as a team this season.”

Edwards, who won 12 Olympic gold medals during his career as a triple-jumper, also passed on his best wishes to the Hull Wasps during his meet and greet with Fawcett and Wordsworth, wishing the club the best of luck ahead of the new season in September.
