A strong final quarter helped Loughborough Student Cardinals to the Division 4 Men’s playoff final as Rodney Bryn-Hussey collected the Most Valuable Player award.

The Cardinals led 54-53 in a tightly contested final through three quarters, but blew the game open with a 16-5 run in the opening eight minutes of the fourth sealing the win. Loughborough outscored Leeds 26-9 in the final period.

Leon Gabbidon was the top scorer with 20 Leeds’ points (the only Carnegie player in double figures), while Bryn-Hussey (17), Graham Holland (17), Chris Carroll (16), and Obi Obanye (11) completed a balanced Loughborough attack.

Leeds’s 26 turnovers and 38% field goal percentage were major factors and showed the tough Cardinal defence, though Loughborough did shoot a lowly 38% (11/29) from the free throw line.
