Former Hull Wasps Player of the Year, John Kelsey is set to make an unexpected return to the Wasps much to the delight of the fans.
Kelsey, who won Players’ player, Fans’ player and MVP just two years ago, left the club in February this year but has now made a return to the club to bolster the squad for the rest of the season. After talks with Wasps player-coach Matt Fawcett over the past couple of weeks, Kelsey has returned to training and could now make his full return this Saturday against Mersey Tigers II at the Bonus Arena.
“It’s good to have him back.” commented Coach Fawcett.
“He was initially looking at coming back at the start of the season but he wanted more time to prepare. John has always been a fantastic player with great skills and leadership qualities.
With yesterday’s announcement of Rob Birchmore leaving the club next week, it’s welcoming news to see the return of such an experienced player.
Fawcett continued: “We needed to strengthen as a team and John has the quality that we need. His experience will be invaluable to the new players in particular and the younger players will look up to him for guidance.”
Club chairman Dave Bushnell also welcomed Kelsey’s return: “It was sad to see John leave early on in the year and I’m glad to see him come back. He’s always been a strong asset to the club and the team and I’m pleased to welcome him back to the Hull Wasps.
“Hopefully we can start to put a good run of results together as an even stronger team now and work our way up the league.”
