Fawcett Determined to Get Wasps Back on Track

Hull Wasps will take on Middlesbrough Lions in both a League and Shield double this weekend in a return home to the Bonus Arena.

The Wasps tip-off tonight with the first of the fixtures and will be looking to bounce straight back after last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Tees Valley Mohawks. They will be looking to recoup some of their early season form which saw them win convincingly in their opening two games against Oldham Titans and Rossendale Raptors.

The Wasps currently sit fourth in National League 4 North with Middlesbrough Lions in sixth having played one game less. It will be a stern test for the home side and a challenge that Wasps player-coach Matt Fawcett won’t be taking lightly.

“I’m determined to get the team back on track” commented Fawcett ahead of the double-header.

“Last weekend was one of the toughest losses I’ve had to deal with so far as a coach. It was a game I believe we should have won but on the day they (Tees Valley) got the better of us.

“We need to learn our lessons and get back to basics. We need to come out strong against Middlesbrough as they’re a really hard team to play against. We may have to grind out a victory which could go right down to the wire. It’s exciting for the fans but all I want is a win. If we can do that it will restore some confidence and we can roll on from there.”

In his comments, coach Fawcett was keen to point out the early-season form of shooting guard Adrian Blatherwick which sees him as the Wasps leading scorer through some tremendous three-point shooting.

“Blatherwick has had a tremendous start to the season. His shooting has been incredible in the early stages and he continues to respond well to any challenges that Steve (Assistant-Coach) and I are setting him. He is already a serious threat to any opposing team but if he keeps on improving he could be crucial to our success this season.”

Along with the firepower of Blatherwick, the Wasps welcome the return of 6’8” centre, and team-captain, John Brignell to bolster their attack on the inside. Brignell missed the away trip last weekend through personal commitments but is likely jump straight back into the Wasps starting line-up this weekend.
Tip-off tonight is 7:30pm with tomorrow’s Shield game tipping-off at 6:30pm. Both games at the Bonus Arena.
