It is with regret that Hull Wasps Basketball Club announce that John Brignell has stepped down as Head Coach.

Brignell led the Wasps to 5th place in National League 4 North, their highest league position since competing in the division 3 years ago. Brignell also led the Wasps to some memorable wins including an 88-77 home win over Warrington Wolves in December 2010.

Dave Bushnell, Chairman of the club said: “John has been simply an amazing leader and has led the team with some outstanding performances as a player and coach.

“John has brought in a feeling of togetherness within the squad and we have enjoyed many fantastic performances over the season. He stepped in at the last minute for us at the start of the season and he has led the team to great success.”

“On behalf of everyone here at the club, I would like to sincerely thank John for his work this season. We will begin the search now to replace John with a longer-term coach.”

Brignell’s personal commitments have meant that he cannot continue in the Head Coach role. His future with the club is yet to be decided over the summer but he remains keen to be involved next season.

“I would still love to be involved” said Brignell.

“This is a fantastic club and I have really enjoyed working with the first team over the season. It has been hard work but thoroughly enjoyable and it is with great sadness I step down from this role. Like the others players, I will be looking at how I can still be involved next season but it won’t be decided over-night. I will think long and hard over the summer before making a commitment to next season.”

The Wasps will now be looking to replace Brignell with a new Head Coach as soon as possible to begin National League preparation throughout the summer. Further information will be released through official communication channels as soon as it becomes available.
