Hull Wasps forward Rob Birchmore has today announced that he will be leaving the club.

Birchmore has been a part of the Hull Wasps since the club launched in 2008 and has been renowned for his work rate during his three-and-a-half year spell with the Wasps, making him popular with the fans.

Current Hull Wasps coach Matt Fawcett, along with previous coaches have all featured Birchmore in their season squads and is one of the most featured players ever for the club, making almost every 12-man playing squad for each game.

“It’s with great sadness that we have to let Rob go” said Fawcett.

“He’s always been a player of remarkable dedication and commitment both on and off the court. He’s a huge player for us in terms of what he gives out there on the court and we’re all sad to see him leave.”

His imminent departure comes as a surprise to many but the 28-year-old has decided to make a career move which takes him and his fiancé Hayley north of the border to Edinburgh.

In a final message to the fans, Birchmore commented: “I’m absolutely gutted that I have to leave the Wasps. I have really enjoyed being here over the past three-and-a-half years and I’ll miss everybody including the players, the club staff and the fans.

“I want to thank you all for the support you have given me over this time and I’m sure I will be back to watch the games in the future.”

Rob Birchmore’s last available game for the Wasps will be this coming Saturday (19th November) against Mersey Tigers II at the Bonus Arena (5:30pm).
