Formet Lincoln Wildcats guard, Ashley Rice has joined the Hull Wasps for the 2008-2009 National League season. Rice, 21, has been training with the first team squad for some weeks now and has now registered with the club for the coming season.

With the devastating news some weeks back about John Kelsey missing the first half of the season, it comes as a timely boost for the new National League 4 side.

"Ash has shown some hard defence and offense in training and I'm sure that his previous experience in National League will be of great worth to our side this season. He can play either point or shooting guard, or perhaps even forward when we need, but without doubt he's certainly a talent that we are pleased to have in our side." said coach, James Coulson.

Ashley played for Lincoln Wildcats in National League between 2005 and 2007 and joins former team-mate, Matt Fawcett.

"Ash is excited to join the Wasps and he is relishing the opportunity in front of him to make a real impact on the team. We played together at Lincoln and I know he has been a very successful player in the midlands league and in other local leagues. He is a proven player at National League and the guys are really happy to have Ash in the team."

Rice will be available for selection in this Saturdays National Sheild clash against Tees Valley Mohawks at the Gemtec Arena, Walton Street, Hull. Doors will open at 6pm with the game to tip-off at 7pm.
